“It is quite clear their groovy alternative sound will catch on” Hilly Dilly
“Strangely irresistible” Clash
“An outstanding live act” London In Stereo
“A smooth cocktail…somewhere between The Magic Numbers and David Byrne” Dummy

Bristol based ones-to-watch Tungz share their debut EP ‘Okay’ out not on Jamz Supernova’s Future Bounce label.

The DIY band have been honing their low-fi pop sound for a few years now, putting their own stamp on the genre. Sonically sitting next to the likes of Jungle, Parcels and Franc Moody, Tungz have created an uplifting disco-influenced sound of their own and new synth-filled single ‘What I wanted’ comes with a new visual which can be viewed here.. Previous singles ‘My Baby Can Stand Being Alone’ and ‘Do You Like It?’ have seen support from the likes of Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1) and John Kennedy XFM.

Speaking on the EP Tungz said: ‘Okay’ is probably the word we use most as a band. It can sound meaningless, but to us it’s the opposite. It’s what we say when we’re starting something. ‘Okay - let’s do it.’ That’s how we feel about this EP. There’s a lot of stuff we want to make, and this is the start.

Having met at University in Bristol, the four-piece were drawn to one another with their shared passion for music, house parties and a penchant for 70s TV shows and retro style. With a constant thirst for creativity, the band made a basement home studio, tirelessly worked on music and performing, until Tungz was born. Their shared love of Bristol, in particular the bohemian and multi-cultural district of Stokes Croft where they’re based, very much moulds the sound we hear today. Inspired by the likes of Vulfpeck, Little Simz and Tyler The Creator, Tungz have a clear vision and need to do things their own way. Not swayed by what is popular, the DIY ethos of the band is fundamental to its sound and aesthetic, naturally leaning on nostalgic elements and bold colours as a way of mirroring the sound of the music.
Having previously supported Franc Moody on tour, Tungz have become an outstanding live act, regularly playing in Bristol and selling out London’s Sebright Arms earlier this year. The band have also just announced a string of live shows including a headline show at London’s Pickle Factory (18th October) and Exchange in Bristol (5th October) as well as shows in Leeds, Manchester and Brighton. With their debut EP due out later this year, 2019 looks set to see Tungz step into the light.
